The Wrecking Rod is a Bomb-elemental staff available for Natalie in Epic Battle Fantasy 4 and 5.

Description

The Wrecking Rod is a silver staff with what appears to be a round vent or turbine as the head, topped with a pair of metal blocks forming a crude square. A pair of silver struts connect the blocks to each other, and two brown wires or tubes extend from the sides of the vent to the top of the shaft. When equipped, the topmost block moves up and down like a strange piston.

In EBF5, the Wrecking Rod's head was slightly altered; the vent's slats are perpendicular to the shaft of the staff instead of on an angle, the wires/tubes are red instead of brown, and a second, smaller pair can be seen connecting the head and the shaft.

The Wrecking Rod has great HP and Defence to bolster Natalie's normally lacking physical bulk; however, this comes at the cost of modest penalties to Accuracy and Evade. It also gives a boost to Bomb skills, with weapon-elemental skills providing an unleash to let Natalie take advantage of it. Its resistances usually include Bomb and Stagger, with the latter becoming an immunity at Level 5.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4

The Wrecking Rod raises Natalie's HP and Defence by significant amounts, only surpassed by the Oak Staff in these regards. On the other hand, its Magic Attack is on the low side, and it reduces both Accuracy and Evade (particularly the latter). It increases the power of Natalie's Bomb skills; while she doesn't learn any naturally, it compensates with its tendency to unleash Blast when used with Spectrum and her Normal Attack. These skills can also reduce the target's Defence on hit, allowing Natalie to support a physical offense from her allies; this role is encouraged further by the Wrecking Rod's ability to automatically counter with a Normal Attack.

In general, the Wrecking Rod should be used as an offensive support staff that improves Matt and Anna's damage output while shoring up Natalie's weaker defensive stats. Compared to the Flower Pot, its main advantages are superior physical bulk, a counter attack, the ability to make enemies more vulnerable to physical damage, and earlier availability.

The Wrecking Rod gives resistances to Bomb and Stagger, but it is vulnerable to Thunder. It becomes immune to Stagger at Level 5, but its Thunder weakness remains constant at all forging levels.

Normal

The Wrecking Rod offers great boosts to Magic Attack, Defence, and HP, but at the cost of small reductions to Accuracy and Evade. Its weapon-elemental attacks can inflict Stagger and have a chance to unleash Big Blast, which compliments its ability to automatically counter with a Normal Attack; however, the unleash can also consume Stagger stacks that the player may have intended to exploit with another party member's attack.

Overall, the Wrecking Rod is a well-balanced weapon that can be used offensively or defensively. Although Natalie won't have access to a reliable Bomb spell until Energy is acquired in Redpine Town, its good Magic Attack and Stagger infliction can be useful for an offensive support build that also has decent bulk to fall back on. Like the Nitro Bomber XL, it's also effective for empowering Hand Bombs in a throwing build.

The Wrecking Rod resists Bomb, Thunder, Stagger, and Confuse, with the latter two becoming an immunity at Level 5.

Equip Remix

The Alt Wrecking Rod grants decent HP and Attack boosts, but its main selling point is its massive Defence bonus, which is complemented by an 80% Defence buff if Natalie Defends herself. With the added HP bonus, this staff gives Natalie immense physical bulk to go with her naturally high Magic Defence; however, this comes at the price of cutting her Magic Attack in half.

Fortunately, the Alt Wrecking Rod has several effects to encourage a defensive support role. It increases the effectiveness of debuffs and healing spells, with the latter helping to offset Natalie's weakened Magic Attack for her healing duties. Additionally, its weapon-elemental skills can reliably apply Dispel, allowing it to remove enemy buffs on spare turns.

Compared to its magical/buff-boosting counterpart, the Alt Oak Staff, the Alt Wrecking Rod is typically better for day-to-day use; Natalie already has good Magic Defence, she learns most of the shared debuff skills, and there are noticeably more dangerous physical attacks in the game than magical ones. For any given battle, however, the decision is a matter of personal preference; either way, the Alt Alchemy Set, the Alt Kaladanda, or the Alt Soul Crusher are options for less extreme defensive staves.

The Alt Wrecking Rod resists Thunder, Wind and Bomb, none of which become an immunity at Level 5.
